Second Chances: Hillsborough Detention Center Visit
Tampa Bay Buccaneer players will visit Hillsborough Juvenile Detention Center and spend time with the youth in order to lift their spirits and motivate them towards a more positive outlook. Dignitaries from the Safe & Sound Hillsborough’s Leadership Council and Detention Center Advisory Board members will join the players in interactive activities and discussions with the youth. In addition, players will talk to experts and advocates about strategies and policies to help keep more youth out of the detention center and how to expand community-based services for youth.
Law & Order: Youth Mock Trial
Tampa Bay Buccaneer players will host Safe & Sound Hillsborough’s Mock Trial in October at the George Edgecomb Courthouse with Farnell Middle School, the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Hillsborough County, attorneys from both the Public Defender’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office, and the University of South Florida. Students and players will take on a realistic court case involving gun violence and play all associated with a trial. Utilizing a trauma-informed approach, a scenario unfolds about the consequences of being involved in a gun crime, both directly and indirectly.
