#SafeSummerSeries Responsibility Matters Program

Accountability Today. Opportunity Tomorrow.

The Responsibility Matters Program is a six-week restorative justice initiative designed to help youth learn from past decisions, develop essential life skills, and build a positive path forward. Through mentorship, education, family engagement, and personal growth, participants gain the tools to make better choices, strengthen relationships, and become positive leaders in their communities. Offered at no cost through Safe & Sound Hillsborough in partnership with the State Attorney’s Office, the program provides eligible youth with an opportunity for accountability, growth, and a fresh start.

6-Week Program Overview

Building Accountability, Leadership, and Positive Change

Each week of the Responsibility Matters Program focuses on a key life skill to help youth reflect, grow, and move forward with confidence.

Week 1

Accountability & Consequences

Youth explore how choices impact their future, their families, and their community.

Week 2

Decision Making & Peer Pressure

Participants learn how to recognize risky situations and make independent, positive choices.

Week 3

Violence Prevention & Conflict Skills

Youth build tools for de-escalation, emotional control, and safe communication.

Week 4

Substance Awareness & Healthy Coping

This week focuses on understanding risks and developing healthy ways to manage stress.

Week 5

Community Responsibility & Leadership

Youth learn how their actions affect others and how they can become positive community leaders.

Week 6

Future Planning & Personal Growth

Participants create goals for the future and complete the program with a personal growth plan.
