

Adult Mental Health First Aid Training (August 6)

This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to adults who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.
Learners will complete a 2-hour, self-paced online course, and participate in a 5.5-hours, instructor-led in-person training.
The course covers:
- Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
- Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
- How to interact with a person in crisis.
- How to connect a person with help.
- Expanded content on trauma, substance use and self-care.
Learn how to respond with the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE ):
- Assess for risk of suicide or harm.
- Listen nonjudgmentally.
- Give reassurance and information.
- Encourage appropriate professional help.
- Encourage self-help and other support strategies.
This training is offered by Safe & Sound Hillsborough in partnership with the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County. Classes are FREE and open to the public thanks to generous support from AdventHealth and BayCare.
Participants must live or work in Hillsborough County.
